Gallery 12: Suzdal
Suzdal, a short bus ride from Vladimir, is considered by many the jewel in the crown
of the "Golden Ring" of historic cities. It is certainly the Russia of one's childhood dreams.
"Flower-drenched meadows, the winding Kamenka River and the dome-spotted skyline make this
medieval capital the perfect fairy-tale setting. ... Its main features are an abundance of
ancient architectural gems and a decidedly rual atmosphere. ... Suzdal may have as many churches
as people." - Lonely Planet.

Our hotel, the Rizopolozhenskaya, was housed in these grounds of the

The "medieval" wooden buildings in this photo (taken outside
the massive Saviour Monastery of St. Euthymius), and in subsequent shots,
are of course modern reconstructions. But they are quite tastefully done, we felt.
