The wreck of a Soviet tank piloted by the North Vietnamese, who did plenty of damage themselves in this
area, intervening to support the Pathet Lao guerrillas and to secure their western flank against US ground invasion.

This photo and following: the capital of Xieng Khuang province, Muang Khoun, was obliterated
in US bombing raids from 1966-69, eventually leading to the capital being shifted to Phonsavanh. Here,
the remains of a bombed-out Buddhist temple.
