Photo Gallery 39: Laos - Sam Neua
Yet another 11-hour bus ride away, Sam Neua is the capital of Hua Phan province, closer
to Hanoi than Vientiane and populated by a wide range of minority peoples, notably various groups
of Hmong, Khamu, and Thai, who settled the region as latecomers in the 19th century.

A frieze commemorating the Second Indochina War in Sam Neua. Wherever you go, those communists
are just so darned heroic!
