These photos were taken during two months in Indochina
(Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam) from May to July 2009.

Our final day at Angkor was spent touring several temples in the vicinity of the major sites.

Amputee landmine victims have established a number of musical groups, which
play for donations and CD sales along the paths approaching the Angkor sites. Cambodia has the
highest number of amputees per capita of any country in the world, a legacy of unexploded US munitions
and decades of civil war.

This photo and following: Ta Prohm, late 12th century. The temple is famous for the
strangler figs that choke the masonry and, in many cases, are the only things keeping it standing. Wrote
Guy de Pourtales in 1931: "The tree roots flow over the roofs, tumbling in all directions like a flow
of lava, sometimes breaking the stones apart, sometimes holding them together. Here and there, the jungle
respects a facade, frames a row of columns without destroying it. And, in places, it even cements together
with its powerful creepers a porch that was on the point of collapsing ..."
