Every morning, Buddhist monks make the rounds of local restaurants and
businesses, with their begging bowls in hand. It's customary for families to designate one son
to spend at least a few years in a monastery.

This is one of the very few photos taken of the mass evacuations/expulsions of Phnom
Penh's population, which began on the day the Khmer Rouge took power, April 17, 1975. It hangs on the wall of
the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, and serves to set up the photos from S-21/Tuol Sleng which follow.
