Photos by Adam Jones

These photos were taken during two-and-a-half months in South India
(states of Karnataka, Goa, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala) from June to August 2008.

Gallery 26: Thiruvananthapuram & The Backwaters

Thiruvananthapuram, still more commonly known by its old anglicized name
of Trivandrum, is the capital city of Kerala state. Here I planted myself for two-and-a-half
weeks, doing research on international labour migration from Kerala. But I also took the
opportunity to snap a few photos of this quite lively and friendly town ...

This photo and following: at the Trivandrum public gardens and zoo, home to
some lovely 19th-century examples of British colonial architecture (and some cool animals).

We now shift up the coast to return to the city of Kochi, highlighted in
earlier galleries. Griselda and I had wanted to take a boat tour of the verdant "Backwaters"
around Kochi, but were laid low by the only serious stomach bug of the whole trip. So this
was a case of taking care of some unfinished business (continues in the next gallery).
