The monument glimpsed through a thicket of cacti

"... A chauvinistic travesty that is not the best work of Tilcara sculptor
Ernesto Soto Avendaņo. The Indian statue is a textbook example of indigenismo,
a twisted nationalist tendency in Latin American art and literature that romantically
extols the virtues of native cultures overwhelmed by European expansion." (Lonely Planet,
Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.) I personally feel this is rather harsh.
