Gallery 29: Moscow
We spent only 36 hours in Moscow, a city where I lived for a month in 1997, doing field
research for my Ph.D. dissertation. It's shinier now, and a hell of a lot more expensive.
Still endlessly interesting, though.
A silvery early-summer rain-shower by the Kremlin walls.
A Moscow mounted policeman (you can actually see him and his comrade riding
towards our dry refuge at the bottom left of the previous photo).
Inside the GUM shopping centre on Red Square.
Marshal Zhukov strikes a heroic pose in a sculpture outside Red Square.
The Aleksandrovsky Garden outside the Kremlin walls.
The British Embassy in Moscow. Well, it used to be -- it's the 16th-century
"Old English House," the first diplomatic legation for the Brits, in the Kitay Gorod district,
the heart of medieval Moscow.
