Russia 2008

Photos by Adam Jones

These photos were taken on a month-long trip to Russia in May-June 2008.

Gallery 14: Omsk

At this point we swing a couple of thousand kilometres east on the trans-
Siberian route, to Siberia itself and the rather pleasant industrial city of Omsk, where
we passed a few hours wandering before catching an onward train to Tomsk. For your interest,
this is the city that Fyodor Dostoevsky was exiled to in the 19th century, and where he wrote the
book
Buried Alive in Siberia. On present evidence, I don't know what he was complaining
about, although maybe things were a little different in the 1850s. As throughout our Siberian travels,
the late-spring weather was gorgeous.

Griselda, a little tired after 48 hours solid on trains, but
looking lovely as always.

In Omsk, Marx (MAPKCA) Prospect still led to Lenin Square -- a trend we found
persisted in some form throughout the Siberian cities we visited.
