Arequipa is often reckoned Peru's second-largest city, with the
immense volcano El Misti (5,822 metres) towering over it.

Note, in this photo, the Inca motif in the figure immediately above
the main window (see detail below). This was a feature of many Arequipa churches,
which I have not seen elsewhere. Also note the earthquake damage visible at the
bottom right of the window.

The terms "Catholic church" and "inspired elegance" don't usually go together,
but I found Arequipa's places of worship -- at least their exteriors -- to be an exception.
