Photo Gallery 29: Laos - Bolaven Plateau
The richly fertile Bolaven Plateau had the misfortune to find itself on the "Ho Chi Minh Trail"
during the Second Indochina War -- the route used by the North Vietnamese to funnel fighters and supplies around the
demilitarized zone into South Vietnam -- which means that the Americans bombed the living shit out of it for many years.
Unexploded ordnance (UXO) still litters the gorgeous landscapes, where some of Laos's best coffee, tea, and vegetables
are grown. The plateau is populated mostly by Mon-Khmer-speaking minority peoples; those shown in these galleries are mostly
from the Katu, Ngé, and Alak groups.
