South India 2008

Photos by Adam Jones

These photos were taken during two-and-a-half months in South India
(states of Karnataka, Goa, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala) from June to August 2008.

Gallery 15: Old Goa

Old Goa, for centuries the seat of Portuguese rule, was once an urban entrepot
larger than Paris or London; but it was abandoned in the early nineteenth century after successive
outbreaks of disease. Today only a few major constructions, all religious, remain.
