The Jesuit Missions: Argentine Side

The 30-odd Jesuit missions in Argentina's Misiones Province,
and across the border in Paraguay, were made famous by the Roland Joffe
film The Mission, starring Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons. These
photos are from the Argentine side; see images of the Paraguayan missions
in the following gallery.

The horror-movie setting
of the Santa Ana cemetery (1)

In the old mission of Santa Ana the cemetery has subsided,
graves have been thrown open, and there is the extraordinary sight of this
higuero tree that has melded with the stone of the cemetery walls.
